Where are you from?

Salt Lake City, UT

What position do you like playing the most in volleyball?

Why do you play volleyball

Stacy Sykora. She defined the position of Libero and is an incredibly defensive player. As an under-sized player, she gave me inspiration to push forward in my volleyball career and be the best defensive player I could be. Although she is far from short, she taught me how important defense is to the sport.

Who is one volleyball player (athlete) that you are inspired by and why?

I love that it truly is a lifelong sport that helps bond people. As an adult, I’m playing almost as much as I did in my youth. I also play volleyball because it’s one of the few true team sports. My teammates as a youth and as an adult have become my family, and I rely on them in life the same way I do on the court. It’s a sport where  one player can be a superstar, but that player wins and loses by the strength and bond of the team.

Why do you coach? What excites you about coaching?

I coach because I love teaching. There’s nothing more gratifying than giving instruction during a clinic or practice and watching a player execute properly in competition.

What do you value most in your players?

Coachability. Attitude is so important, and being willing to try something new, even if it feels silly at first, is the best way to learn. I value a player who is willing to really and execute the tips we give them.

What is your most embarrassing volleyball moment?

It’s not so embarrassing as it was my “Facial of Honor”. Logan Tom was a senior when I was a sophomore, and our schools played each other. During warmups, I was “playing defense” (really just standing on the line admiring the older girls), and she cranked one down the line and nailed me right in the face.

She did it again in High Performance camp that summer
